The Galaxy S20 FE is a standardly sized device like most smartphones of 2020 measuring dimensions of 159.8 x 74.5 x 8.4 mm and weighing 190g. Built of both plastic and glass, the front built with Gorilla Glass 3 and the back having what Samsung calls “Glastic” which has a mat-finish. Both back and front are sandwiched with an aluminum frame. The glass on the front is flat and has no curved edges. This will be appealing to some people whilst others will not be in favor as they like the premium feel and look of the curved edge screens. You will notice the evenly thin border around the face of the device as well as the tiny hole-punch at the top center of the display. On to the display, it’s a 6.5 inch super AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels with 20:9 aspect ratio (~407 ppi density).
Turn the device to the back, you will notice the mat-finish of the Glastic back and on the top left corner a rectangular camera bump, housing three shooters, which is not as pronounced as that on the S20 and Note 20 series but is enough to wobble your phone when placed on a flat surface.
Booting the device, it comes with Android 10 complemented by Samsung’s own One UI 2.5. The engine that runs the show in this device is the Qualcomm SM8250 Snapdragon 865 processor which is paired up with an Adreno 650 for the graphics. Thankfully, for all those who love extra storage (then again who doesn’t) the smartphone comes with a provision for expandable storage via microSDXC of up to 1TB. Storage-wise Samsung has included 128GB of internal storage as the only option and 6GB of RAM.
There are three cameras on the back of the device, a 12MP standard lens, a 12MP wide-angle lens, and an 8MP telephoto camera and there’s a 32MP shooter for your selfies located in the tiny hole punch in the display. You are not getting the headphone jack but you will have stereo speakers for immersive audio and the device has IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, thus feel free to give it a splash or take it for a dip when things get hot.
Powering the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G is a 4500mAh battery which is the same capacity as the S20 Plus the only difference is that the S20 Plus has a higher resolution as compared to the 20 FE, therefore the latter should have better battery life as compared to the S20 Plus. On top of this, you are getting 25W Fast Charging, 15W Fast Wireless charging and 4.5W Reverse wireless charging.
The Samsung GalaxyS20 FE is a bargain of a device. You will be getting more for less and that is value for money that most people look for when purchasing a new smartphone. Currently in the United Kingdom, there’s both a 5G variant and a 4G-only variant. The 5G model will cost £699 (~$890) while the 4G-only model will cost £599 (~$763). In Europe, However, the 4G-only Galaxy S20 FE will start at €659 (~$769) while the 5G version will cost €759 (~$886). Of course there’s that drop in price on premium smartphones like the S20 Plus, which should also be around the same price as the now released S20 FE.
